Uno de los tantos rasgos humanos en el temor al vacío, a la nada, a la ausencia de materia que comprima espacios. La ciencia de la Historia registra cómo es que a través del tiempo la humanidad ha llenado espacios y ha dado cuenta de la habilidad de las culturas para resolver tal preocupación humana. Ambientada en la década de los noventa, la novela Vacios aborda, de manera simbólica, el desasosiego humano por cubrir ausencias. En la historia, personajes como Malicha, Greta, Andrés/Chemo, el profesor Fortunato, Humberto, entre otros, insisten en llenar sus vacíos y carencias. Cada quien, a su modo, cree lograr su propósito. Chemo involucrándose con el narcotráfico, Greta viviendo una vida fútil, Fortunato interactuando con sus estudiantes e involucrándose con Greta, Malicha pintando, etc. En la novela, una serie de espacios también muestran la preocupación por los vacíos como aquella ciudad garigoleada con sus casonas y callejuelas solemnes o el retirado lugar donde el sol golpea afanoso y donde de la tierra parecía emanar fuego. Vacíos también hace referencia a una de tantas décadas pasadas en las que la corrupción reinaba en un lugar cualquiera.

One of the many human traits is the fear of emptiness, of nothingness, and of the absence of matter that fills spaces. Historical science records how, over time, humanity has consistently sought to fill these voids, showcasing the ability of cultures to address these concerns. Set in the 1990s, the novel Vacios symbolically explores the human anxiety surrounding the need to fill these absences. The story follows characters like Malicha, Greta, Andrés/Chemo, Professor Fortunato, and Humberto, each of whom strives to fill their own emptiness and shortcomings. In their own ways, each believes they have achieved this goal: Chemo through involvement in drug trafficking, Greta through a futile existence, Fortunato through his interactions with students and his relationship with Greta, and Malicha through painting, among others. The novel also portrays several spaces that reflect this preoccupation with emptiness, such as the scribbled city with its grand mansions and solemn alleys, or the isolated place where the sun relentlessly beats down and fire seems to emerge from the earth. "Emptiness" also alludes to one of the many past decades in which corruption reigned in an arbitrary place.
